LONDON, UK – [Upcoming: 12 September 2025]
At the forthcoming UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit 2025, Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment will unveil a portfolio of climate-resilience and environmental investment opportunities aimed at UK green finance leaders, DFIs, and institutional investors focused on ESG outcomes.

Dr. Alfred Okot Okidi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, will lead a session focused on attracting finance for Uganda’s growing pipeline of wetland restoration, flood control infrastructure, carbon market ventures, and nature-based adaptation projects. His presentation will align with Uganda’s National Development Plan and its newly operationalized Carbon Market Regulations (2025) under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Dr. Okidi’s upcoming remarks will highlight:

  • Wetland Rehabilitation at Scale: Expansion of successful GCF- and UNDP-backed initiatives that have restored over 38,000 hectares of wetlands, with future PPP and conservation-finance models available for scale-up in key Ramsar sites.
  • Urban & Regional Flood Control: New investment opportunities in catchment restoration and urban flood infrastructure, modeled after Uganda’s EURECCCA project and targeting disaster-prone areas in Eastern and Western Uganda.
  • Carbon Credit Generation: Uganda’s new regulatory framework now enables transparent and verifiable carbon trading across forestry, clean cooking, renewable energy, and ecosystem restoration projects. The Ministry will share a curated pipeline of eligible projects open for co-development or carbon-credit acquisition.
  • Climate-Smart Agriculture & Ecosystem Finance: Opportunities to fund or co-implement nature-based solutions (NBS), reforestation, and drought-proof agriculture via outcome-based funding and blended capital structures.

The Ministry is expected to launch a preview of Uganda’s Environmental Investment Prospectus, featuring projects eligible for green bonds, climate funds, or carbon offset buyers. Dr. Okidi will also extend an invitation to UK green finance stakeholders to join a 2026 Climate Investment Roundtable in Kampala, aimed at deepening partnerships.

His message to investors will be clear: Uganda is serious about delivering high-integrity, community-rooted climate projects—and is looking for credible partners to mobilize private capital at scale.
