Prof. Luis G. Franceschi to Address Governance and Institutional Trust at the 15th UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit
We are honoured to welcome Prof. Luis G. Franceschi, LLB, LL.M, LL.D — Assistant Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat — as one of our distinguished keynote speakers at the 15th UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit, taking place on 12th September 2025 in London.
Prof. Franceschi brings a wealth of experience and a globally respected voice on issues of governance, democracy, rule of law, and institutional development. At the Commonwealth, he coordinates the political and governance portfolio across 56 member countries, overseeing critical areas such as electoral integrity, judicial transformation, public-sector governance, and countering extremism. He also serves as CHOGM Conference Secretary and Head of the Host Country Task Force, playing a key role in Commonwealth diplomacy and policy delivery.
At this year’s summit, Prof. Franceschi will deliver a keynote on “Building Institutional Trust: The Foundation of Sustainable Investment” — a timely intervention as African countries look to attract long-term foreign investment while strengthening governance and resilience. His address will focus on how transparent public institutions, legal reforms, and peace frameworks can reduce risk and unlock confidence in Africa’s growth potential.
A celebrated academic and legal reformer, Prof. Franceschi was the Founding Dean of Strathmore Law School in Kenya and has advised global institutions including the United Nations, World Bank, and regional courts across Africa. His insights on constitutional law, judicial independence, and democratic transition have shaped public policy and legal education both in Africa and globally.
Beyond academia and diplomacy, Prof. Franceschi is also an accomplished author, mountaineer, and advocate for innovation in governance. His publications include works in The Routledge Handbook of African Law, Springer, and the ICJ Kenya, and he has been a visiting scholar at Oxford and UC Berkeley Law School.
As Africa charts a course for transformative economic growth through the ATMS agenda (Agriculture, Tourism, Manufacturing, and Science & Technology), Prof. Franceschi’s keynote will provide a compelling call for governance-driven investment partnerships built on trust, accountability, and institutional strength.
We look forward to his powerful contribution at what promises to be a pivotal summit for Africa–UK relations.
