London, UK – June 2025 — The UK–Africa Business, Trade & Investment Summit 2025, the UK’s premier gateway for high-level economic collaboration with Africa, is proud to announce the participation of Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, as a distinguished speaker.
Taking place on 12 September 2025 at The Royal Horseguards Hotel & One Whitehall Place in London, this 15th edition of the summit convenes over 500 senior decision-makers, policymakers, CEOs, and investors with a focus on high-growth sectors across East and Southern Africa.
Prof. Nuwagaba, a globally respected economist and architect of “Musevenomics”—Uganda’s inclusive growth framework—will deliver critical insights into Uganda’s fiscal innovation strategy, including the introduction of Diaspora Bonds as a sustainable and patriotic financing model. This comes at a time when traditional aid flows decline and public debt pressures rise across the region.
Recent analysis from the Africa Economic Outlook (March 2025) and IMF (Feb 2025) suggests a sharp turn toward alternative financing strategies. Kenya’s Treasury has already signaled a move toward diaspora bonds to ease its debt, which has risen to 70% of GDP. Uganda’s forward-looking posture aligns with this trend, positioning the country as a model for economic self-reliance in the region.
“With declining donor flows and shifting geopolitical priorities, diaspora bonds are becoming a viable tool to mobilise untapped capital from patriotic investors abroad,” the Africa Economic Outlook noted.
