There is a certain feeling that comes over you when you first realize your face is starting to develop some of the most common aging skin problems. Whether you have more lines than you care for or if your wrinkles just aren’t very subtle or graceful anymore, there are non-surgical ways to reduce if not altogether eliminate most signs of aging on the skin.
As an African, do you have Anti-Aging dilemmas that need to be solved? I’d be willing to wage a spinach salad on the fact that you do.
Once I asked a black woman a simple question, at least I thought it was simple. The question was, what type of skin care regimen do you use and do you use anti-aging products on your skin? OK, it was two questions.
I could have sworn that her head turned around twice before it settled back into it’s original place on her neck. I also thought she’d become an Asian dancer the way she rolled her neck and swirled her shoulders …OK … to the point.
Her response was that she only used “soap”(which had her face looking dry and dull) and water and that as a “Black Woman” she didn’t need anti-aging products. I told her that I respected her choice and left it at that.
As African’s, we are a beautiful people but we do need to understand that just because we have melanin, we still age. Everybody and everything on the planet ages so why do we think we’re different.
At every age we need to protect our skin. We are prone to uneven skin tone and dark spots that result from hyperpigmentation. As early as our 20’s we should begin to take care of our skin in order to delay premature aging.
- In our 30’s, it’s a good idea to step up our treatments with topical as well as oral supplements that are high in antioxidants.
- In our 40’s, exfoliation becomes key to having and maintaining flawless skin. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cell build up and speeds up cell turnover, giving you a youthful looking complexion.
- In our 50’s and up, let’s boost the collagen and elastin by using face firming serums. Serums are a great way to care for your skin giving it a plump and full appearance. It’s never to early to start using serums either.
Unless your gene pool is exceptional, a Great skin care regimen is going to be the foundation to having beautiful skin.
And as for aging, our black skin may not age as fast as other skin tones, but we do age. As for caring for your beautiful black skin, treat it with kindness from within and without.
The truth is, most aging skin problems are a result of processes that are happening deep inside the body. With today’s technology, these inner problems can be conquered with a combination of changes in your daily routine.
- First, consider a high quality fish oil supplement. Pure fish oil has proven to do amazing things for the body as a whole, which includes keep the skin young and fresh.
- Second, reconsider what you decide to have for lunch tomorrow. There are some foods which are very rich in antioxidants and other nutrients which will keep your skin nourished. Try to eat a well balanced diet that includes colorful fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and some very lean protein. Cutting out the grease is the best thing you can do to correct your aging skin problems.
- Finally, reconsider what you are using in terms of skincare products. You want to find a good product line with ingredients that stimulate your body to produce additional supplies of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. All of these are natural parts of young skin cells that are responsible for keeping the skin tight and wrinkle free. With time they diminish to lower levels, which is when you start to notice sagging skin, wrinkles and fine lines.
Look for ingredients such as CoenzymeQ10, Phytessence Wakame, and Cynergy TK when selecting the best skincare products for your face.
